After reading the CQ Researcher article about marijuana, I think that it should be legalized now because about 605 million Americans have been arrested for just having it on them, they had it for their personal use. I never knew how expensive it was to arrest someone with marijuana, but it costs approximately $10, 400 per arrest, and since there are so many people being arrested it’s now like $7.6 billion spent on arresting someone..
Even though marijuana isn’t a safe drug; I don’t think any drugs are, it would beneficial to put a tax on it because there are so many people that have this drug, and I think that by taxing marijuana that will greatly help our economy right now.
The only think I fear from marijuana being legal is that it’ll be everywhere; if it’s passed than anyone that’s able to but an ounce is going to get some and they’re going to be smoking it everywhere. Another would be the effects it gives you; I think it has the same side effects as alcohol. Some people might do something stupid while they’re on it and will probably end up in jail for abusing use of the drug
Legalizing it will have it’s downfalls but I think that overall it will be a benefit to our economy.
We should always think of the welfare of the next generations to come. Marijuana use and sale have proven hazards to the health and well-being of the individuals involved as well as everyone around them. The cost of the consequences that go with marijuana use and sale is so great that relaxing the present laws must not be entertained.
ReplyDeletemarijuana would help the economy, but there needs to be some strong restrictions.
ReplyDeleteWow I never realized that it cost so much to arrest someone...although it would be smart to put a tax on marijuana, people will still buy and distribute it the old fashion way: illegally.
ReplyDeleteIf alcohol is legal, so should marijuana. There should be strict laws about consumption and restrictions to what you can do while under the influence, but yes. Legalize
ReplyDeleteIf they legalize it then just like cigs, the government will just try to get rid of it again down the road. You wrote a nice blog though.
ReplyDeleteLegalization marijuana will be increase the number of drug users and drug related crimes.
